At Nature’s Path Therapy, we believe in the profound connection between nature, animals, and healing. Nestled among the trees in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains, our treehouse-based therapy practice offers a unique, science-backed approach to emotional, psychological, and physical well-being.
We are dedicated to fostering resilience, transformation, and personal growth through animal-assisted therapy, nature-based interventions, and evidence-based therapeutic techniques. Our therapy dogs—each rescued, rehabilitated, and trained—play an integral role in helping individuals find healing, balance, and renewed purpose.
Nature’s Path Therapy integrates:
Unlike traditional therapy settings, our practice is set in a peaceful, immersive natural environment, where the healing power of trees, open skies, and the companionship of animals fosters a sense of safety and renewal. Our upcoming Grand Opening in Spring 2026 will mark the official launch of in-person sessions at our fully developed site, offering a sanctuary for those seeking a deeper connection to themselves and the world around them.
Whether through one-on-one sessions, interactive therapy with our dogs, or the therapeutic rhythm of dryland mushing, Nature’s Path Therapy is more than a place—it’s a journey. Here, your path to healing begins, guided by nature, supported by dogs, and shaped by science.
Life at Nature’s Path Therapy is a daily journey of healing, resilience, and preparation. Our treehouse sanctuary, set deep within the heart of nature, is home to 12 therapy dogs, each with their own inspiring rescue story. They are not only our companions but also dedicated trainees, working hard every day to prepare for their future roles in animal-assisted therapy.
As we construct and develop our property, we are creating a one-of-a-kind therapeutic retreat, where clients will experience the power of nature and canine companionship in a setting designed for deep healing and renewal. Our Grand Opening in Spring 2026 will mark the full realization of our vision—a space where science, nature, and compassionate therapy unite.
From dawn until dusk, we engage in structured training, enrichment, and bonding activities, ensuring that our therapy dogs are confident, calm, and ready to offer support when the time comes. We have also begun preparing for our Dryland Mushing Program, an exciting way to build strength, teamwork, and trust, reinforcing the values that define our approach to therapy.
Every day is a step closer to a new kind of therapy experience—one rooted in the rhythm of nature, the warmth of animals, and the science of healing.

Welcome to Nature’s Path Therapy, where the journey to healing is deeply rooted in resilience, nature, and holistic well-being. My name is Joseph Atkins, and my path to therapeutic work has been shaped by a rich tapestry of experiences—academic, professional, and personal—that inform my unique approach to healing.
A Journey of Growth and Transformation
My academic and professional journey has been anything but conventional. I began with two years in General Studies, followed by another two years studying Respiratory Therapy. After spending time as a Clinical Operations Director in an urban setting, I felt a calling to shift my focus toward property development, sustainable living, and therapeutic practices. This decision led me to a rural lifestyle, where I immersed myself in the art of home-building and discovered the profound impact of nature on mental well-being.
The transition to rural living provided me with an opportunity for deep introspection and personal growth. In this solitude, I was able to fully embrace holistic wellness, blending psychology, nature, spirituality, art, and music therapy into a cohesive practice. This environment also allowed me to attend Northeastern State University, where I redirected my academic focus to Psychology. Now in my final year as a Psychology undergraduate, I plan to pursue advanced studies in the field, supplemented by a double minor in Sociology.
An Empirical Approach to Holistic Healing
My work is deeply informed by scientific research and empirical evidence. I integrate various therapeutic modalities to ensure a well-rounded, evidence-based approach to healing:
Professional Affiliations & Ethical Commitment
I am an active member of the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT), staying connected to the latest advancements in psychology and therapy. These affiliations allow me to continually refine my practice and ensure that my work adheres to the highest ethical standards.
Additionally, I am deeply committed to inclusivity in therapeutic spaces. My approach is informed by research on the psychological impact of discrimination, and I work diligently to ensure that my practices align with current legal and ethical guidelines while prioritizing the well-being and rights of my clients.
The Role of Nature’s Path Therapy
The culmination of my journey is Nature’s Path Therapy, a sanctuary where individuals can find healing, connection, and renewal. Here, I integrate scientific research, holistic wellness practices, and the therapeutic power of nature to create a space where transformation can take place.
Our pet-assisted therapy dogs play a crucial role in this mission, offering unconditional love and support to those in need. Each of our dogs has their own unique story of resilience, mirroring the journeys of many individuals seeking healing.
Looking Ahead
As we prepare for our grand opening in Spring 2026, Nature’s Path Therapy is evolving into a space where people can reconnect with themselves, nature, and the healing power of holistic therapy. My life experiences—rooted in both scientific research and personal resilience—have shaped this vision, and I look forward to sharing this journey with those seeking a path toward well-being and transformation.
Thank you for being a part of this journey. I look forward to walking this path together.
